Our Lady of the Perpetual Shakedown, take 3

When we lived in Texas, we happened to frequent (I use that word loosely) a church that seemed to be in the middle of capital campaign developments so we were being encouraged to support this or that endeavor. It became so frequent that my husband nicknamed (This is one of his greatest talents!) the church.... Our Lady of the Perpetual Shakedown. I've always loved that name.

Honestly, Our Lady is tenacious. She won't give up on you and I don't think she'd be offended at that title. I need to be perpetually encouraged to give, to give up, to share. I can't hear it enough.

Oh sweetie, what am I going to do with you?

Kids keep you humble and apparently I keep myself humble.  Two quick stories:

Monkeyboy saved up and bought himself an air soft gun (essentially a modified bb gun that shoots rubber pellets). The cashier needed my date of birth and so Monkey does the math and announces my age to the whole store (because he only has one volume - loud) with, "Mom, you're either 40 or 41." Yes. Yes I am. Thanks sweetie.

I slept in late on Sunday and as a result went to mass on my own since the kids served at the earlier mass. Apparently during 'my mass' they were having annointing of the sick. So I walk in behind a lady who I overhead being instructed, ' We're asking those who are being annointed to sit on the right side of the church.'

Well I wasn't getting annointed so off I go to the left hand side. I did notice the pews were marked off, every other pew was blocked. Strange. I found an empty pew and shoved myself to the middle - because I'm trying to be considerate to my fellow mass goers and no one likes sitting in the middle. Considerate me. A lady with a cross ( the special ones they are handing out to those who are being annointed) sits next to me. I think to myself - 'lady you're on the wrong side', eh but I'll mind my own business and do my little prayers. As mass starts I notice more and more little white cross wearing people are filling in around me. Hmmm. Remember, I'm in the middle of the pew! It dawns on me, I am on the wrong side of the church. So there I sat sheepishly as everyone around me got annointed. Oops.

For the sake of your sorrowful party

"Have mercy on us and on the.." Huh???

I was a little tired last night when it occurred to me that I hadn't prayed the Divine Mercy chaplet for the day and it being time for the Divine Mercy Novena, weariness or no weariness I decided to pray it. I guess I was also thinking of Peachy's birthday party today and all the things I needed to do yet, that I substituted 'Party' for 'Passion'.

I am the worlds' second worst hair stylist!

The Peach pit has this American Girl doll Hair book that monkeyboy gave her for Christmas a couple of years back. At this point the book is raggedy and worn because she has made me do just about every hair style in that book. I'm very grateful for the pictures and the step by step instructions. God has been very good to me. My hair is simple to arrange. People ask me all the time what I do to my hair and they take my reply as arrogance because I usually say "I wash it." Seriously, my hair is long and curly. You don't brush curly hair. You just don't. It's not pretty. I did it once for Halloween and the kids are still laughing about that one. I was the lunch lady. I had spoons, hangers, and assorted kitchen items in my hair that year.

This morning I was helping the peach pit with her hair all the while thinking "I have to be the worlds' worst hairstylist' but somehow I manage to pull off acrobatic feats of hair styling when I notice the hair in her face needed to be pulled back. So I asked her if she had a barrette or clip so we could tame her wild strands. That's when husband announces: "I have a chip clip!". It was also the moment I realized that I am the worlds' second worst hair stylist.

Dance dance revolution

My coming home present from my trip abroad from my husband was DDR for the WII. The kids made up song lyrics to I'm a Barbie girl... (well they either made them up or heard it from I can't imagine where...this can only be Papa's influence... so I'm really worried about how the kids are going to come home from their trip back home after their long sojourn there.... more on that later...)

Back to the kids song lyrics:
   I''m a Barbie giiiiiiiirl
   in a Barbie woooooorld
my butt is made of plaaaaaaastic
   it's fantaaaaaaastic

Holy Thursday Happy Feet!!

They asked me at church if I wouldn't mind getting my feet washed as one of the 12 representatives of the church community. It's a new church, 'cause we moved and we're new to the area (poor folks, I know) so they don't know my penchant for irreverent behavior. I'm so totally in love with Jesus, but irreverent as all get out, in case the blog title didn't give it away.

So here are my tootsies. Can't wait to see Father's grin when he peeks at my toes!!!

I am sure Jesus is highly amused! Highly!

Do all dogs go to heaven?

Heaven being the fulfillment of all desires. If I ever make it to heaven, I couldn't be happy without my pup. Jesus would never allow me to be unhappy in heaven so I will see my pup in heaven, provided I actually make it there, which is the bigger quandary.
My pup on the other hand, would be totally happy in heaven without me so unfortunately for me, she's no help for gaining my entrance, but here's a cute argument on the subject.

Monkeyboy madness

My son, aka monkeyboy has this habit of taking off his headgear (for his braces) at night when he's dead asleep. The boy sleeps like a log. He can be woken up at night easily and drift right back to sleep but that interim time is absolutely wasted on reasonable conversation. I noticed last night when I went to bless him that his headgear was missing so I quietly patted his cheek and said 'Oh, Papa'll be in to see you, won't that be fun?' and went to my bedroom and waited for the Drill Sergeant to check on his little charges and while I sat quietly this was the exchange I overheard:
    Papa: Get up!
  Monkeyness: YEAH. YEAH. It's OK.
Papa: You took off your headgear. Put it on.
  Monkeyness:It's on. It's on. I'm ok.
Papa: Get up! You're headgear. You took it off.
Monkeyness: I'm UP!! I don't have the book.
Papa: Here it is. Put it on!
  Monkeyness: I KNOW!!!
    Papa: Goodnight buddy!

Is it bad of me that I just sit in silence chuckling?? It used to be Papa would argue with him until I mentioned 'um hunny, he's fast asleep and completely clueless. Don't argue with him.' That's when drill sergeant stepped up. Yes I AM a total wimp about waking him up which is why I delegate that task to the drill sergeant. I, much like Hobbes, am there for the cuddles and the smooches.
