If you're going to get divorced, seriously folks - why get married? Society views marriage as a convenience, aka the push for gay marriage. But that's not what it is. Marriage is a way of life that is open to life, which by definition, gay marriage can never be because sperm-sperm or egg-egg will never beget life.
Marriage is a vocation requiring discernment. Am I called to be married? Am I called to be single? Am I called to be in a religious vocation? Here's the thing, we don't discern. We give into our desires and never once consider the question, "Am I called to enter into marriage?" or "In what way am I called to give of myself?" It takes discipline to ask that question and as a society we've lost that along with the leisure suit.
I've this ongoing conversation with Monkeyboy and Peachy about their vocations. "You need to pray for your vocation. What gifts have you been given and how are you to share them? You know maybe if you start praying for them now, you'll be ready to respond in the direction you are called."

Celibacy is not for me
It occurs to me when I think how I relate to God that it's far more important how he relates to me. When I see how he relates to me, it just makes me go 'wow, you do think of just about everything don't you?'.
I get wistful at times that I'm married with kids when I tend to be a lousy mother and an even worse wife. I persistently think I would have made a much better celibate because of the perks that come with celibacy, the ability to make deep lasting relationships, the ability to concentrate or spend time developing thoughts, working, being deeply involved and committed. Then it finally dawned on me that I would have made a quite miserable celibate and not because of sex.
Okay, I'm latin and yes very passionate but once you have God, sex is ...well ... passe. It's good and I love my husband, but I also understand that exercising our marital rights is not the ultimate good, only God is. A heathen would never say such a thing but seriously once you have God, you don't want to go back, ever. God is really that good, better actually! If you haven't fostered a relationship with God, you should give it a try. God will leave you breathless.

Celibacy has its perks
I don't know how sluts do it. Is that politically correct? I don't care. I was watching the Big Bang Theory when Penny was asked if she was a slut for having slept with thirty some partners and it made me pause. I don't get it. I mean I've been married to the same man for 16 years and its only been with him that we renew our marriage covenant. THE SAME GUY. Okay I feel a need to point that out because again, I don't know how a slut does it. I mean we've been doing the whole horizontal mambo, the beast with two backs, you know for sixteen years with no one else but each other so why is it we still don't have this figured out?
This is the, I don't know, umpteenth time I've had a urinary tract infection, and I know what its from and I can trace back to exactly how I got it.
So as I sit in my Dr's office it occurs to me celibacy has some really phenomenal perks! Unfortunately, I was not called to celibacy even though many times I wish I had been. Its not because of this infection. I just think celibacy has some really phenomenal perks and to be totally honest, I'm just a wee bit jealous of my celibate friends.

Why is there a rosary in the refrigerator?
Married life us such an adventure! So says my husband and I'm inclined to agree with him. I bought my best friend a rosary from France for her priesthood bound cousin. I also bought her chocolate sticks and kept them together in the fridge so they wouldn't melt & I could remember to send them to her every time I needed a glass of milk. 5 months later my husband is sending them for me. Thoughtful I am, prompt I am not.

The "tolerant" and "open-minded" are only so when you agree with them
therwise these people are the most intolerant and closed-minded individuals on the planet. If you don't agree with them, they get angry and you are personally attacked. Don't believe me?
The Catholic church teaches homosexual relations is a sin, but people supportive of homosexual relations get angry when the church speaks up about it (the latest: a sportwriter bashed Archbishop Dolan. Have you read what His Excellency wrote on the true meaning of Marriage? It was beautiful.).
'Who are you to impose your barbaric taboos?'. Who indeed? Good question, maybe I'll address that later.... the argument is they are consensual. Ah, yes, may I remind you that Switzerland is contemplating getting rid of incest laws because of this way of thinking. The fact that anyone is even 'contemplating' that should be a slap in our faces, but most of us will go, eh, Switzerland, but you see that's how sin works. It dulls our conscience to what is right. We look to the person and we love them and want to support them so we approve of the behavior as proof that we accept the person. In reality, we can accept the person without approving of the behavior. Perhaps too many Christians have rejected the person in order to reject the behavior. This is not ok, but we know all too well that we Christians are flawed and in need of a savior too. We too struggle with how to live our faith. More often then not, we fail. Please forgive us.
Someone has to stand up and be the light in the world pointing us to what is right, true and holy so that we may live in eternal happiness in heaven. Jesus wants all of us to get to heaven. It's the church's responsibility to proclaim a gospel that at times makes us all uncomfortable. It's suppose to make us uncomfortable! Seriously! I appreciate the people who lie to me and tell me, 'No, you don't need to lose weight. You're healthy. Have some more.', but I would have never started to lose weight if my clothes didn't scream at me to shed some pounds. I didn't like them very much, but they couldn't help but proclaim the truth.

Marriage
The UCCSB just put out a new video on marriage and in it are several married couples and single parents discussing the uniqueness of marriage, the self-lessness required in living out that vocation and the gift children are to the marriage and the spouses are to the children. Check it out http://www.usccb.org/marriageuniqueforareason/index.shtml

Happy Birthday
I was ruminating and pondering that I never wanted to get married, never thought I'd get married, never wanted/thought I'd have kids and not sure most days that I want the ones I have or have anymore. Had I not had kids or a husband I probably would've had vacation homes, fancy cars and boats, season tickets to anything and everything, lovers on every continent, money to buy anything my heart desired and how my heart would desire these things and more. Um, hold on, I'm having a hard time seeing the downside in all that. Where was I going with that???
One day in that string theory future I would've woken up on empty having searched and not found what my heart truly desired and on that day, I would've doubled the contents of all the oceans with tears of remorse. My God loved me too much to see me as unhappy as that so he brought me close to Him so I could pour out a heart full of gratitude for all the gifts he's given me and for the ones he shielded me from. I love you too. Although, I really would like a boat.

Marriage
We've had more than a few couples comment to us that we are their 'model'. Is it how we compromise (what's his is mine and what's mine is mine - eh, it works), or how we parent ('dad, help it's heavy' - Grow stronger)?
I was looking at a photo of us and I had to laugh because...
under no circumstances would I ever mistake us as a couple, EVER!
He's Irish. I'm mexican. He's white. I'm wheat. He's daring. I'm not. He's serious. I'm silly. He's dry humor. I'm Monty Python. Our spiritualities are even different! Every other couple I meet I can go "yep, I can see that". They even look alike in certain ways or have other similar traits, politics, religion, whatever, but perhaps we do share something in common.
I'd prefer to do or have things that we don't but it's not more important to me than our marriage so I keep my silence (sometimes I can do that!). I'm certain there are things he'd rather have/not have/do/not do but he's never had a need to share that with me.
I for one am grateful! It's hard enough trying to fulfill the needs&desires of everyone else tugging on me that it's nice to have someplace to go where no one makes those demands. I'm lucky enough not only to have a husband but also friends who do that for me.
I just hope I do the same for them!
