My Daily Med: "Have I been with you for so long a time

and you still do not know me?"
This passage reminds me of...gonna say it...wait for it...yep... Catholics.
Cradle catholics, those "been catholic my whole life", " I was raised Catholic", cafeteria Catholics, lillie and poinsetta catholics ( ACE catholics - advent, christmas, easter) whatever your personal favorite is, that's what the reading today speaks to me about and I'm not immune. I completly accuse myself of being guilty too.
The thing is each and every time we enter into the holy sacrifice of the mass, we have the opportunity to meet Jesus. It's not some abstract idea of a real presence. It's him in the flesh, body, blood soul and divinity and do we take the opportunity to meet him, to know him, to love him, to serve him each and every moment of our lives? The hard and fast truth is that every person that meets Christ is transformed. You never leave him the same way you came. Never! Read any of the Gospels. The magi, the first to meet our Lord, went home a different way. That's important! That should happen to us too.
So often it doesn't. Why is that? Is it because we never met him? Are we just like Philip who listened to Jesus' preaching, ate and drank at his table(Eucharist) and camped out with him (adoration) but never really met him/got to know him?

If we never knew him, who's fault is that? It takes 2 to enter into a relationship and it takes 2 to maintain that relationship. He's doing his part. Are you doing yours?

Holy Thursday Happy Feet!!

They asked me at church if I wouldn't mind getting my feet washed as one of the 12 representatives of the church community. It's a new church, 'cause we moved and we're new to the area (poor folks, I know) so they don't know my penchant for irreverent behavior. I'm so totally in love with Jesus, but irreverent as all get out, in case the blog title didn't give it away.

So here are my tootsies. Can't wait to see Father's grin when he peeks at my toes!!!

I am sure Jesus is highly amused! Highly!

Life is too short for crappy liturgy

Oh too short for crappy liturgy. I just found myself getting angrier and angrier sitting through mass, and I have to admit it wasn't all that bad. The bishop and the entire tribe of Levi were concelebrating and mass itself was divine. The distribution of Jesus in the eucharist should have been better handled. Seriously, the pope can manage distribution of Jesus at the old Yankee Stadium but the entire tribe of Levi in a Cathedral can't seem to distribute Jesus. I had no idea what was up with that.
When you're in a Bishop's Cathedral, you kind of expect decent liturgy and music. Maybe I just need to lower my standards when I walk into the diocese's cathedral.
The organ was either out of tune or the organist was hitting the wrong notes, either way, it was bad and way too loud. The female cantor, oh I can't say anything nice, well she could sing in public. I think the best thing that could have happened would have been if there had been no music.

It was gaudy, awful music. Loud organ playing offkey, shrill woman singing, okay and when you have the entire tribe of Levi present and accounted for(all the priests - for those who don't have a clue what the entire tribe of Levi references), there is no reason why Jesus in the Eucharist can't be distributed with a bit of efficiency. Oh, it was like standing in line for rice in communist China during a famine, good grief.

I found myself praying 'Just shut up and give me Jesus! Shut up, give me Jesus. Shut up!' I may need to revisit the sacrament of reconciliation but then again I'm pretty sure that Jesus dislikes crappy liturgy too.

For the love of God, shut up!

That's Pat Archbold's blog here. There should be reverence in the church at all times. Unfortunately, it's no longer the little kids who need to get shushed in mass. While I'm on the subject, grown men should not be chewing gum during mass although he's not chatting up his neighbor during Father's homily discussing his grandaughters' latest exploits.

Feast day!

I love feast days. I don't know why. I just do. I have issues I suppose. Today we celebrate Archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel! Two are extraordinarily special to our family, but it's terribly depressing that I'm the only one excited about today's feast day. I'm guessing I'm not allowed to beat them into submission of celebration?

On the corner of Leviticus and Deuteronomy twirling my beads

the daily mass whore gets lots of experience praying with different congregations, priests, worship styles. I've been around the fruitcakes and the wacky priests who change the liturgy to say 'she' instead of 'He', 'Mother' instead of 'Father' or my 'sisters and brothers' instead of brethren or brothers and sisters. Let's elevate woman in this way. Let's make her not equal to man, but superior, HA HA HA! Then she shall be happy and no longer badger anyone. Really?
I remind myself God chose to be a man. He chose.
I also remind myself that he chose to be born of a woman. In so doing he elevated woman in a way words would never do.
So pray however you like. I'll pray with you but not to be superior to man. I only want to be his partner, and if you really want to know I would just love for him to be a hero!
